The freelance subtitler
Free-lance subtitlers working direct with TV-stations as well as those working with a subtitle company are the major customers for the Cavena Tempo subtitle preparation stations. The same customers also use Cavena Toolbox to convert subtitle files from one format to another or between 625 and 525. Free-lance subtitlers sometimes also use the S-DVD to produce bitmap or tiff images used for DVD subtitling or S-Cinema to produce the subtitles for BluRay or Digital Cinema.
The subtitling service supplier
The large companies supplying subtitle work to the TV-channels use the same Cavena Tempo and Toolbox as the free-lancers both for their translators and for QC. These companies also make use of products like the Cavena SAM subtitle archive and management software.
The facility house
Some facility houses do subtitle preparation in which case they use the Tempo. The make use of the Cavena Toolbox to convert subtitle files and the S-DVD to produce subtitles for the DVD authoring system. They also use the Cavena STU with in-vision capability to make a subtitle master from the clean master both for SD and HD. Some facility houses also make video copies with VBI line data such as teletext or Line 21. Some today have video encoders and are generating transport streams complete with audio/video/subtitling.
The play-out center or TV-station
The modern play-out hosts a number of channels. Each channel may be transmitted in several different formats some to satellite others to cable or an IP-network. The news or current affairs channel
In news and current affairs programming there is a need for hard of hearing subtitling for the local community and there may be a need for multiple language subtitling for the minorities and the export market. The Cavena subtitling system caters for these needs.
